The President’s Call to Service Award

Thomas Smith is a recipient of The President’s “Call to Service” Lifetime Achievement Award of Excellence, by President Barack Obama!

Thomas Smith has been honored with The President’s “Call to Service” Lifetime Achievement Award in 2014, presented to those who demonstrate passionate devotion to the success of their communities through their commitment and dedication to volunteering. Thomas Smith’s honor is symbolic of a lifetime of selfless volunteer service.

“I am incredibly honored to work alongside many community leaders and volunteers,” said Thomas Smith, President of the Rotary Club of Palm Springs. “It is through the continuous efforts of community volunteers that projects are completed to better people in our local communities and around the globe.” The prestigious President’s Call to Service Award is bestowed on only a very select group of individuals for their lifetime achievement in providing over 4000 hours of volunteer service and a vigorous commitment to improving their community. Smith received a lapel pin, personalized certificate and congratulatory letter from President Barack Obama. “This is a special award, and it means the world to me,” Smith said.

The President’s Volunteer Service Award is issued by the President’s Council on Civic Participation on behalf of the President of the United States to recognize the best in the American spirit, and to inspire all Americans to improve their communities through volunteer service, and civic participation. Service usually springs from selflessness, but President Barack Obama wants to recognize volunteers just the same. That is why the Presidential Volunteer Service Award was created as a national honor to give Presidential recognition to individuals who have demonstrated a sustained commitment to volunteer service. “Thank you for helping to address the most pressing needs in your community and our country,” President Barack Obama wrote in a congratulatory letter to Smith. “Thank you for your devotion to service and for doing all you can to shape a better tomorrow for our great nation.” The Call to Service Award is a way to thank and honor Americans who, by their demonstrated commitment and example, inspire others to engage in volunteer service.
